The cartography aspect sounds interesting but I’m afraid I’m one of those readers whose credibility meter is probably on too sensitive a setting for the less believable parts of the story!
That’s definitely one thing about this story, FictionFan. The disbelief issue does come up, I suppose one could look at it as a spec fic thing – fantasy in this case – but you do have to be willing to let your disbelief go. That said, though, yes, the cartography thing is interesting!
