Sounds good, with a rather more subtle look at questions relating to race than in a lot of recent novels. And I do like a journalist as ‘tec! Another one that might end up on my wishlist!
Yes, I thought Hall handled the race thing effectively, FictionFan. The book raises important questions, and invites the reader to think about things like privilege and the impact of race on news coverage and police work. But it didn’t feel preachy to me. Interestingly, the author is a well-known journalist in the US. She’s had more than one show, won awards, and so on. So she knows her onions! If you do get to this at some point, I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Oh, it really was, Sue! In some ways, crime reporting is similar to crime writing. You’re not actually involved in the crime or arrests, etc., but you have to know how it’s all done.

I like the idea of the role of race in this novel as it is related to media reporting a crime.

I thought that aspect of the novel was handled effectively, Carol. There was a solid discussion of it without it feeling like ‘preaching.’
