  1. I’m very wary of Holmes pastiches having got tired of authors marrying Holmes off, or bringing him into the present, or having him battle actual ghosts! This one sounds as though the author has at least tried to stay within the real Holmes world, though, which is always better.

    1. Oh, I know just what you mean, FictionFan! I’m not at all one for a married Holmes, or a present-day Holmes, or a Holmes who battles space aliens or something. I will say, Bennett does keep Holmes in his own world, both in terms of the plot and details, and in terms of the sort of crimes that happen. There are definitely differences between this story and the real Holmes canon, but it is pretty well in the real Holmes world.
