  1. Ha, I just finished reading this on Saturday! (It’s been on my TBR since 2015, possibly because of it winning the Petrona.) I loved the eeriness – Sigurdardottir always does that aspect so well. And I thought the contrast between the darker sections on the yacht and the lighter sections with Thora and her family and colleagues worked well and stopped the thing from becoming too bleak. As always with contemporary crime, I did feel it could have been slimmed down in the middle a bit, though. But it was nice seeing Thora and Bella at least trying to be civil to each other for a change!

    1. Ooh, eerie timing, FictionFan! I’m glad you enjoyed it for the most part, and you’re absolutely right that she builds atmosphere so effectively. Those scenes on the yacht are truly eerie. But I do like the wit she weaves in, too, especially when it comes to Thóra and Bella! As you say, it was interesting to see them actually try to behave around each other; it made for a nice bit of character development. As for the length? It is indeed a bit long, and there were some scenes I didn’t think added to the story. But overall, she writes a good story, I think.
