  1. Interesting choice! It must be forty-five years since I last read this, though I read it several time in my teens. I only remember the basic plot now, but I also remember it made me cry more than any other novel I’ve ever read! That’s partly why I’ve never revisited it – adult-me is much harder-hearted than teen-me was, and I’m almost sure it wouldn’t have the same impact now, and I wouldn’t want to end up changing my feelings about it, if that makes any sense. However, you have tempted me…

    1. It makes perfect sense, FictionFan, that you’d want to keep those teen feelings about a book that moved you. I’ve had a few reads like that, myself. This one is one of those books that I think definitely has an impact, and as I say in the vid, I do think you can look at it through the lens of crime fiction. At any rate, if you decide to re-visit it, I’ll be interested in your adult-me view of it.

  2. Oh, what a treat, Margot. The last time I read Of Mice and Men was in high-school and so I thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts about the book and it brought back some memories of it although, in studying it in high school we were not told about the femme fatale. Makes me want to read it again.

    1. So glad you enjoyed this, Carol! I think a lot of people read the book in high school, and don’t get back to it for a long time (if ever). And there are lots of different themes in it (like the femme fatale that high school students don’t notice (or aren’t told about).
