Interesting premise – that kind of panic that grows from almost nothing is a strange phenomenon, kind of like mass hysteria. I can imagine how frightening it could be for teenagers to find themselves responsible for it unintentionally.
You’ve got a good point, FictionFan. And in the book, it really is portrayed as almost mass hysteria; that’s a good way to describe it. You’re right, too: Frankie and Zeke are really frightened and even haunted by the fact that they started it all however unintentionally.
