  1. Not sure about the psychic angle, though it sounds as if she doesn’t take it too far. But the setting and story sound great – another one for the wishlist, I think!

    1. I know what you mean, FictionFan. The psychic angle can be taken too far and misused. Everyone’s different, of course, but I didn’t think that was the case here. And the story and setting really did work well, at least for me. If you do try this one, I hope you’ll like it.

  2. Thanks for an interesting video. While listening to your commentary I thought of Decker Roberts in The Junction Chronicles by David Rotenberg. He is a synaesthete. His innate gift is the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth. When he hears a statement he can close his eyes and the patterns he sees tell him if the statement is true. Later in the trilogy there are synasthetes with paranormal abilities. I prefer characters with special abilities rather than paranormal power.

    1. You make a really interesting point, Bill, about the difference between paranormal power and special abilities like being a synaesthete. And I’m glad you mentioned The Junction Chronicles, as that’s a good example of having that sort of ability. There are people with that special ability to tell if someone’s lying, or what someone’s emotions might be, etc. Even though it’s unusual, it feels realistic if that makes sense. That’s what I like about the main character in this novel. She can’t read minds, she’s not telepathic, etc. But she has her own awareness.
