Well, I’m stuck in the Australian desert in summer in my current book, so a bit of Alaskan cold sounds very appealing! These extreme environments always work well as a backdrop to a crime novel – and leave me very glad that the worst I have to contend with is endless rain!
I can well imagine that Alaskan cold sounds refreshing after the Australian desert in summer, FictionFan! You’ve got a well-taken point about extreme environments. It’s not just the danger that comes from the plot itself. It’s the added stress and peril of harsh environs. I know I wouldn’t choose to live in either place. But yeah, I won’t talk about the weather where I live. Someone might throw something at me! 😉
