    1. I know what you mean, Col. Some authors don’t draw you in as much as others. But sometimes, their next novel is a knockout. If you try Staalsen again, I hope you’ll be glad you did.

    1. I hope you like Staalsen’s work if you try it, FictionFan. Parts of this one are gritty, but, I think, not gratuitous (or it didn’t feel that way to me), and Varg Veum is mercifully free of a lot of the ‘demons’ that seem to haunt so many contemporary sleuths. If you do get to it, I’ll be interested in what you think!
