I think I read a couple of these back in the day, though the plot of this one doesn’t ring any bells. It does sound rather similar in some ways to the Daniel Silva book I read over Christmas – still to be reviewed – which also centres on art and art history and the way art crimes are dealt with. Art crime as a subject is a great way for authors to take us to glamorous places full of interesting people!
You make an interesting comparison, FictionFan, between Pears’ work and Silva’s. Both really do have a focus on art, art history, restoration and the like. And you’re right that authors have lots of great possibilities with an art-based plot – settings, personalities, the whole thing! There is just something about the art world.
