Haha, I’m afraid my shallowness kicked in as soon as you picked the book up and I saw that it’s a massive brick! From there on you stood no chance of selling this one to me, even though it does sound interesting… 😉
See, that’s the thing about showing a book, FictionFan – people see how long it is! And it is long, but as you say, it’s interesting. I think it offers a good look at contemporary Japanese policing. And lifting it counts as exercise… 😉 .
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the novel, Margot. I like crime novels (really any novels) that take place in another country/culture and demonstrate the differences in procedures and relationships on the macro and micro levels. This sounds like a good murder mystery. 🙂
You express that really effectively, D. Wallace. This is definitely a novel that shows some things, at several levels, about contemporary Japan. On that score alone it’s interesting. And mystery – well, the web of secrets – is solidly plotted, in my opinion.
