I remember this one getting a lot of love when it came out, although I never got around to reading it myself. It would be nice to think those attitudes had changed, but I’m not sure they have…
It’s funny, isn’t it, FictionFan, how some books do get a lot of love when they first come out, and others don’t. This one definitely got attention, and I think it raises important questions. Sadly, I wonder, too, if the importance comes from the fact that the issues haven’t changed much.
Another fascinating spotlight, Margot. 📚 I especially appreciate how you look beyond the mystery itself and consider the larger social questions a novel raises. It’s striking and a little unsettling when a work of crime fiction explores attitudes and issues that still feel relevant years later. You’ve certainly made me curious to read Little Deaths and discover it for myself!
Thank you, Mihran. I’m so glad you thought this spotlight worked. You make a strong point about >Little Deaths; it reflects attitudes that we would hope had passed. But the sad fact is, there are plenty of people who still feel the same. If you do read it, I hope you’ll enjoy it.
